'Bible and Biryani' - Ministry to International Students

Dear Friends,

It's not easy to be away from home, and to live that slightly uncertain life, disconnected from family and friends. More so, we presume COVID makes everything feel even further away, and the future more uncertain too.

But equally we think of you because of one of the most famous stories of the Bible, which is the 'Story of the Lost Son' in the Gospel of Luke (chapter 15.) It's a story that shows us something of how God feels for us all when we're in a hard place. Even in those times when we have no place for God in our thoughts or affectons, the story shows us that we have a place in his!

In the story, a son heads off to faraway country, to pursue his own life. And it doesn't all go well for him! But what he discovers as so trustworthy and true is that the father never stopped feeling for his son, and longed to have him back at home with him.

Of course, this original story wasn't written for overseas students! But it uses travel as a simple metaphor for life. Geographically, you could have moved nowhere and stayed in the same place all your life, but you might have drifted and drifted your whole life further and further away from God!

We would like you to consider that despite whatever you you may have done with your life, God still cares and he longs for you to come home to him!

If you want to find out more about this God, this story, you would be so welcome to get in touch with us at St John's for a "Bible and Biryani' night - conversation over a bowl or two of something delicious. We would love to get to know you.

Grace and Peace,

Josh Simon
